If you're ordering this book you've got a lot going on in your life and don't necessarily care about the origins and latin names for foods or the detailed science behind every food. You want to know the best foods to eat/drink to fight cancer and you want it given to you in a straightforward, don't waste my time kind of way. This book does not do that. Yes the information is there but it is sandwiched between so much other technical information. Give me the details and give it to me quickly. We've got cancer to fight. AntiCancer is MUCH MUCH MUCH better. Skip this, buy AntiCancer.

Feb 2017 update: Dr. Beliveau continues his research and I continue to read his papers. I have lost count but I think this purchase is my 6th copy of this book, as my family and friends keep requesting to "borrow" my book :-). This book, along with The Anti-Cancer Way of Life, remains my favorite books to date on this subject. I do not have cancer but I follow the principles about healthy eating and healthy lifestyle as described in these two books. I hope this review helps my fellow Amazon friends :-) ...I bought this book in 2009 for my husband who was dying of cancer. Concentrating on the foods in this book did help him although in the end he lost the battle .I follow the food ideas in this book religiously. I have also purchased copies as gifts for my adult children. It is sound science but still digestable for the rest of us. Hope this helps others.

One other reviewer thought he/she had listed all the anti-cancer foods mentioned in the book. It turns out that there were many more foods mentioned.I like this book because it:1. tells how phytochemicals work to stop cancer. For example, by inducing apoptosis or preventing angiogenesis.2. it lists specific foods3. it tells what phytochemicals are in what foodsThe third is important because it allows the reader to create a search string that contains the phytochemical's name, the word "cancer", and the initials "NIH". Doing a Google search using the string "kaempferol cancer NIH" will find several scholarly articles such as:"Kaempferol induces apoptosis in ovarian cancer cells through activating p53 in the intrinsic pathways". BTW, kaempferol is found in capers. You find this out by looking at Table 22. The searches will also reveal that there are a couple of spelling typos in the table. Fortunately, Google is more than willing to give you a correct spelling. A Wikipedia search for kaempferol will also find more foods that contain kaempferol. As a footnote, we also have the book "Anti-cancer A New Way of Life" which is recommended by other reviewers and commenters. It is the book that mentioned Richard Beliveau. I like it also, but if I could afford only one, I would choose Beliveau's book for its greater scientific usefulness.

I got this book a few days ago, my husband was diagnosed with early stage melanoma 3 weeks ago. I wanted to glean healthy foods from it, although I believe I am cooking quite healthy for the family already. What the book does in the beginning is explain cancer from a biological/medical stand point to a lay person. It explains what it is, how cells go wrong to become cancerous, what makes cancer prosper and hard to treat. At first I thought I'd skip over that section, I don't have a medical or scientific background, and I usually struggle with such explanations as too dry and boring for the lay person. However, I found myself reading this section with increasing interest as the authors give just the right amount of information to help me get a basic understanding of the cell biology of cancer, and I know this will help me down the road in knowing why I am going the extra mile to include the suggested foods into our daily diet. This understanding will definitely motivate me.The authors also don't throw out the conventional approach to treating cancer, but explain quite well why and how diet can do things in treating and preventing cancer on an ongoing basis which drugs and radiation do only for a certain time, with side effects, and possibly not eliminating all of the cancer. The authors see diet as a crucial and scientifically valid ally in fighting cancer.I haven't read any chapter about the individual foods yet, just glanced around a bit, but I can say that DK publishing is doing its trademark outstanding job of making books very readable and accessible with excellent layout and design. I'm looking forward to reading more, and there is even a section on "Chocolate: a good obsession." My husband loves chocolate!

Colorful and well-organized anti-cancer to cure cancer boom of foods and herbs. Bought as it was recommended by Dr. David Servan ‘Anticancer’ Author & His was Best of five books I bought to change my diet and kill the Ocular Melanoma tumor in my eye. It’s gone and I am super healthy. You need both these books.

I borrowed this from a local library and read it cover to cover, then ordered my own copy. I think everyone should have this on their bookshelf: the information is clear and compelling, and could help save your life or the life of someone you care about. I’ve recommended it to many people. My only difference of opinion with the author is that I think eating organically grown food is healthier (for planet and people), although I understand his argument
