I throughly enjoyed reading this book! The author is an expert in human behavior and negative beliefs, as a licensed marriage and family therapist, so she approaches the subject of losing weight from her unique perspective.I really love that she addresses our thoughts, mindset, and negative beliefs when it comes to our weight because they are a big part of this subject. Sometimes we eat sugar even though we know it's not healthy, but we can't stop. It's really important to identify why we make that choice anyway, why we feel it's not a choice, it's more like a compulsion, and how to develop the habit of making a new, healthier choice.I especially liked chapter 5, "What Are My Pain Points? How Do They Affect My Self Concept?" I also believe that many of our beliefs and behaviors today stem from our childhood and I'm happy she addressed this reality clearly, and offered a step-by-step solution to improve them effectively, in the following chapters.I enjoyed the writing style, the many examples, the many exercises offered in the complementary (and complimentary) journal. This is a clear, actionable, comprehensive step-by-step guide on how to permanently lose weight by understanding our mindset, behaviors, societal and cultural choices, and how food fits into it all.I highly recommend it for anyone who is struggling with weight issues and wants to achieve long-lasting positive change in this regard.

It is not a simple formula of strong will power equals controlling natural urges. Too many of us have been told it is. This is a refreshing look at the truth and how you can change your mind and that will change how you look at food and exercise. This is a very useful book to help you choose how to handle the old battle of the bulge! I recommend it!
I really liked the holistic approach to weight loss in this book - the focus on emotions, beliefs, habits and pain points was useful, although I had heard most of it before. The discussion on your self-concept and the image you have of yourself was interesting and something I had not thought of previously. I was a little confused that the author did not actually have a plan for weight loss but instead invited readers to choose one for themselves and there was no discussion on recipes, nor was there much focus on drinking water. However, the MBTI approaches were something I had not seen at all and were useful for helping me decide the best approach to my weight control.
By the title, I thought it was going to be more about visualization. That was only a small part of the equation. There was so much more.I recognize the importance of emotions, wants, sleep, food, exercise, and more in a bigger picture now. It has re-framed my perspective. The section on self sabotage, I think, was written specifically for me. The journal prompts added another layer to utilizing the information that the author has given in the book. Get this book if you're ready to make a change.

She talks about the psychological factors of food addiction. She discusses how we become dependent on good feelings from food, and we want to continue eating to feel better. She includes discussion of our schema and our negative self-talk.She guides us on a tour of how to create a new body image, and how to watch our triggers. Bad habits include eating free restaurant food such as chips, salsa, and bread. She talks about sugar and how it is like a poison in high doses. Cleaning up junk food at home is a perfect way to start.She talks about the benefits of delayed gratification, with lots on how to manage stress and mindful eating. Also included is a whole interesting section about your Myers-Briggs personality type, and how that applies to weight loss.If you are serious about the psychology of weight loss and how you can use it to your advantage to keep it off, this is a book for you.
I love reading books written by smart people. Wendy believes she wrote a book to help us lose weight. What she wrote is a book that is far better. She packed this book full of interesting life lessons. Yes, it will put a person who wants to lose weight on the path to do so. In addition, there are deep revelations made possible by this book. As I read Wendy's book, I begin to wonder about four areas in my life. First, do I have negative thoughts? As I read what she wrote it slowly occurred to me that I don't have negative thoughts. I have made many mistakes in my life. Many. Mistakes. But they are okay. Some were bad. Many, looking back on them are amusing. Next. All of my thoughts are positive. How can that be? I thought about my internal dialog. It is all good. Then I asked myself the question, do I have limiting beliefs? I could not discern any. I wanted to learn to write and publish. I did so. In fact, for anything I have chosen to do, I know I can do it. The final area is not really an area. Is there a method for turning triggers from damaging to helpful? Wendy provides one.I am very satisfied with this book. And I could stand to lose a few pounds.
