With the bundle, you get two books, each of which has a CD with it. The first book is the "Exam Guide" with 12 chapters covering every aspect of the CEH exam and 10 to 15 practice questions per chapter. The second book is "Practice Exams" also with 12 chapters, each with 1-2 pages of study tips and 20 to 30 practice questions. Each CD has an electronic copy of the respective book it came with and a copy of the "Total Tester" software with 300 questions. If you install Total Tester from one CD and then install again from the other (just install it over the top with no uninstall), you get two separate sets of questions to choose from of 300 questions each. I did not compare the sets of questions, exhaustively. But, I don't think this is 600 total unique questions as some of them may overlap and also appear in the physical books. However, they appear to be largely unique and are a solid set of practice questions, regardless.From my recollection, a few of the (easier, basic knowledge) questions on the actual exam appeared to match almost verbatim the ones in the sample questions. This could be coincidence. (How may ways can you really phrase a question about the three-way handshake?).With the bundle, in addition to the books and CDs, you get 4 hours of lab time. Two hours come from a voucher on the inside cover of the Exam Guide. You may get these two hours when you purchase the Exam Guide alone (as opposed to with the bundle). I'm not sure. Along with the bundle, there is a card telling you where you can download a zip file of some bonus content. The bonus content is a Quick Review Guide (a 51 page PDF with a condensed version of each chapter) and a second voucher for 2 more hours of lab time.Although I did not make much use of the labs due to time constraints, I did set up my account, log in, and check them out. They were real virtual machines where you could load software and run commands and things rather than some crappy simulator you sometimes get as "labs". This is surprising since the lab time comes free with the book and someone, somewhere has to be paying for the VMs. One lab I checked out actually had 5 or 6 VMs running. It appears they had labs for every chapter. I'm not sure how extensive the lab steps were. But, they at least allow you to touch stuff which may help your recall for the test.Disclaimer; I already have my CISSP and Security+ and a couple networking certifications before taking the CEH, so your familiarity with this type of material may differ from mine.Using this book and some outside study (e.g. practicing with nmap and some of the other tools), I was able to pass the exam on the first try. The book's coverage of the material was more than adequate. In fact, a lot of the stuff mentioned in the book was never asked on the exam and the exam was much easier than this book implies. I think this is because the author really tries to cover all the bases exhaustively and ends up mentioning a lot more tools, etc. than actually appear on the exam.The only downside I saw was the number of errors in the material, leading to a four-star rather than a five-star review. There are a lot of typos and, I believe, some outright errors. I sent 22 errata items to a couple of the editors whose e-mails were listed on McGraw Hill's website. Hopefully, they will fix them in later editions or publish an errata document online. Some of them are just typos which can be overlooked. Others were more egregious where the practice question had the wrong answer marked as the correct one (which is frustrating when grading yourself). In one case, the book mentions what to expect from an XMAS nmap scan with regard to ports being considered open, closed, or filtered and it is the exact opposite of what the official nmap documentation says. Depending on who is right, this could cost you a question on the exam.Bottom line: Despite the errors, I recommend this book for anyone pursuing the CEH certification.
Synopsis: The book is great. Love the book with test questions, super awesome. If you have Sec+ or any of the myriad of security certificates out there, skip CEH and go for OSCP (far more valuable and becoming the industry standard) then a CISSP or SANS cert (yeah i know that's not the name of the cert anymore) because EC is ripping you off, big time.I am upset with the general principal of CEH. Just got my Sec+ and guess what, CEH is practically the same content with few exceptions: 1) CEH will tell you to use metasploit and sec+ (Sy0-401) doesnt really mention metasploit. 2) Sec+ talks about the management principals behind security (ie business continuity, security policy, SLA, etc) while CEH did not.lets talk about another hustle by EC - The exam cost. its $950 to take the test once. for the material they cover, ima call BS. CompTia ~$300 for sec+. thats reasonable. your not getting $950 worth out of this cert. Oh, and if you dont take EC's course, there is a $100 non refundable application fee to review your credentials (from what i read, it is not applied to the cost of the test voucher if your accepted).
I was worried this would not fully prepare me for the CEH exam since v10 has been available for several months, but I sat for the exam last week and passed! Matt Walker makes the material interesting by putting it into 'real world' stories and then repeats everything in plain language at the end of each chapter.If you are getting ready to take CEHv10 this book is still relevant, and I found it to be much easier to read than the official courseware.

After taking the massive CEH online course, I initially bought the Sybex review book by Oriyano. After going through it, I felt it did not help me much with test exams. It was very shallow and there seemed to be a lot of exam tested content missing from the book. Then I bought Walker's book and I am halfway done. It contains all the depth and missing information I am looking for. This should be the first and only book you need to prepare for the exam.
Initially I studied for the exam using CEH Official Online Course ware and Labs . It contains huge information and I could not get hold of the topics properly due to the massive knowledge it provides. This led me to put my plans to earn the certificate on hold.Recently I purchased this bundle and found it is well organized and easy to study and review.The book even enhanced some of the basic and fundamental knowledge, as the author is very concise and his explanations are clear and easy to grasp.I have passed the exam and would give most of the credit to this bundle.I removed a star for many mistakes in the both books.Strongly recommended.
Just finished the exam guide. Now I'm working on the practice exams. Good stuff. I learned a lot. I recommend using this as a stepping stone on your way to OSCP, which is a much more prestigious, respected, and challenging pentesting certification than CEH.
I recently started studying security and found that this book had rather good reviews as a CEH study guide. Matt does a fantastic job at making concepts relatable and humorous so that even a novice like me could keep going and not be intimidated by the material. I was in a time crunch so I didn't have time to practice with the tools he recommends, and I still got a 94/125. I'm sure it would have been a breeze if I had the luxury of more time. Now that CEHv10 is out, Matt will probably need to add a few more chapters in the next revision, but I can vouch for his quality of getting the information across.
