I was very disappointed when I found out that because I am not in school, I would not have access to the quiz/test answers. Also, I would not have access to the chapter answers either. I was preparing my self to sit and pass the CPC exam but I feel hindered. I feel that I should have been told before purchasing the book that I would have limited access to the course materials.
I purchased the Step By Step Medical Coding 2016 Edition textbook and workbook combination (see picture #1) for a medical billing and coding class that I enrolled in recently. This is the text and workbook required for the course. I have completed chapters one and two in the text and answered most of the corresponding questions in the workbook. The text is worded clearly and fairly easy to comprehend, which is a bonus since the concept is totally new to me (See picture #2 for an example of the text. The pink highlights are mine). However, I did find the workbook did not follow the exact sequence of the text. Since this is a revised edition, I wonder if the previous edition's order of questions aligned with the text and the author didn't realign the 2016 workbook with the revisions she made in the 2016 textbook. The answers were there but not sequential. The workbook also provides an appendix with the answers to the odd numbered questions for each chapter. This feature is helpful for a quick checking of your work and understanding of the material. Unfortunately, the answers for Chapter Two were not all there and did not match up with the review questions within the chapter. Chapter Two had 34 questions listed but the appendix answers only showed 21 (See the remaining pictures). As I perused through the rest of the book, the other chapters looked fine. Overall, I am pleased with this purchase and would recommend this set for students who are studying medical billing and coding.
Only 3 stars because like other reviewers noted, the workbook only gives answers in the back to ODD NUMBERED questions!!! What is up with that? I guess if I answer all the even numbered questions correct I can count on at least being 50% right....
There are mistakes in this book. Another student and myself brought it to my instructor's attention that there are mistakes and she said she knew and the author knew as well. My instructor did the editing for Carol Buck and said Carol will not fix the mistakes and that the mistakes have been there for years.

This Medical Coding Text book and Workbook Package has strengthened my ability to code the ICD-9-CM and ICD-10-CM/PCS Codes accurately when I was doing my homework assignments and taking online tests in college.It also helped me to apply my critical thinking skills with more than 1,000 questions from Reimbursement, HIPAAand Compliance, Modifiers, Outpatient Coding and Reporting Guidelines, Evaluation and Management, Surgery Guidelines and General Surgery and a excellent overview of the Human Anatomy explained in these ten chapters.This is an excellent resource material for anyone pursuing a Medical Coding Career.
I would give it 5 stars, but am upset that all of Chapter 11 is missing without warning! Plus, the author only gives you the answer to the odd numbered questions. (Feels like I'm back in college--altho. I loved college!!!). I will still continue to use this seller tho. He's very good and trustworthy--except for this situation! Thanks for helping me re-learn my coding stuff and update my skills author and seller and amazon.com!
Love this book full of information!! If you want to enhance your learning while in school I recommend this book get it now and get it soon preferably before you start your coding class so you can already have it!!!!! Very heavy and nice you gotta sit down and take your time to read it over and over again!!!!! Great for passing your CCS exam!!!
These books are amazing and really teach you what you need for the CPC exam. Although I am hesitant to rent again. I ordered the first set and only received the textbook, so I had to order another set and only received the workbook. This was very frustrating since I didn’t have time to return them both and wait for another set. So I had to pay for them twice. I finally returned one set and only received a refund for one set. Make sure if you order you get what you need before your time is up.
